Strange but true: only in the last month have I realized that for most people, little pictures appear next to users' names in their posts!

That was on a Linux/Konquerer system. I use Windows/IE everywhere else, and in none of those (IE) browsers do I see the pictures next to users' names.

Not a huge thing (well, a revelation for me!), but thought you'd want to know, maybe see if anyone else has that happen.

Hmm. I'm using IE (occationally), and I get the images (aka Avatars). Anyone else having this problem?

When you say "next to" do you mean underneath?

What I see (and I'll use you as an example since you brought it up) is:

That's using IE both at home and at work. Oh, your name is underlined but I couldn't figure out how to replicate that.

I assume that for me you're referring to the GV on crutches picture (time to change that - haven't used them in a very long time).

So now you've confused both Evan and me. Next contestant...

I thought it was a setting we could change in our preferences somewhere? Todd sees the photos but I don't.

GV, that's exactly it. That pic is distorted because it wasn't square to begin with - if I'd known it was so "visible" I would have fixed it long ago. See, I never knew you were on crutches!

Dawn - aha! (Now I feel reeeely stoopid). Never noticed that before; maybe it was off by default.

Sorry for the fuss, Evan.

There's something odd here. On the discussion screens the photo is widened, making Julie look fat. But if that picture is saved to a file and viewed, she looks normal.

I thought it made her look big-boned.

Julie's photo is 100x147 pixels, so when you save it to a local file on your machine, that aspect ratio is retained, so she looks human. On the discussion screens, all avatar images are scaled to 80x80px, no matter what the actual dimensions are, hence the distorted Julie.
