Evan -- I'm curious how the star rating system works on this site.

I've voted a number of people to be more stars than they already are, but it makes no difference because it does not change their rating to the general (only when I view their profile is there an indication on how I voted them). limited votes perhaps?

I've also been down voted 2 times. I'd like to understand how that happens too (besides saying something something someone doesn't like)

thanks in advanced

You know, I don't have any idea how it works.

Since we're upgrading the software, say over the next 6 weeks, I'll look into it a bit more throught that process.

I'd think that the star rating is a rounded-off mean of individual ratings. If many have rated, then one's additional rating sways the mean little.
As for the downvoting, not all Gunks.commies are nice.

Anything else wouldn't make sense. Only issue would be how the rounding was done and isn't worth the time to look into.

Personally I don't see any value or benefits of the star rating. At this point I no longer even notice them. They're just a little bit more visual noise over by the avatar image.

Not too difficult to answer that one, UBB rounds down, unless they've fixed it recently.
