That's awesome!

What do people use to keep their shoes with them? I was envisioning trailing a mini dry bag by a string tied to your waist.

Holy Crap!!! That's friggin nuts!!! But oh so exciting. If I hadn't almost died swimming an eighth of a mile yesterday for the first time in 10 years, I'd be all over this race! Next year....maybe.

So, a question: If I use a small drybag for my running shoes and it traps air, can I be disqualified for using what would amount to a swimming aid? Not that I think this would hamper me...I think it might save my sorry ass from drowning!!!!

I've heard that many folks just stuff their running shoes down their shorts, heel-first - one in front, one in back - for the swims.

Yeah - I thought it was pretty bizarre too.

I do think others use the method Keith mentions - it was certainly the first thing that came to my mind as well.

The qualification criteria for SOS are pretty strict.

(I've techncally qualified, but since we all know what a truly crappy swimmer I am (and that is WITH a wetsuit), I won't be attempting this race anytime soon.)

Running with wet shoes is not that bad as long as you have decent wicking socks (such as smartwool). The H2O drains from your shoes fairly quickly. They may be a bit heavier, but nothing that you will not be able to tolerate.
