a basin is often open until July. my favorite time of year to ski in colorado is june - good stable snow, and you can start skiing the couloirs on the high peaks if you are willing to walk a bit.

A. Define what you mean by "around Boulder". How far (in time, not distance) are you willing to drive?

B. By ski season, do you mean exclusively lift served or are you also asking about hike-to descents?

Depending on how you answer those, the answer to your question is anywhere between April and August.

Mid to late April

Within an hours drive of Boulder

Expand that to 1-2 hours and you have a lot of options. The only thing really within an hour is Eldora, which is pretty boring IMHO. If they are still open(they should be this year) Copper Mountain or Vail would be a good bet, and A Basin will still be open then for sure.

Eldora is often icy, too. Loveland I think usually closes the first week in May or so, and it's closer than Copper. (Basically it's half an hour from Boulder to Golden, and then you still have to get on I-70, for any of the resorts.)

About the only things within an hour of Boulder are Eldora, Echo Mtn (new resort, mostly terrain park), Loveland, and maybe Winter Park. Open that up to 2 hours and you add Keystone, Breck, A-basin, and Copper. I think of that latter group as being a lot better than the former.

You can get the expected closing dates of all the CO ski resorts here:
http://www.coloradoski.com/snow/index.cfm

The backcountry season will be just getting started in mid-April and that opens up a LOT more options. BUT! Please don't head off into the BC without the proper training and equipment and/or a guide. CO snow is really good at killing people.

Lemme know when you're coming out and if you want more beta.
