Hi There... my friends are coming for a visit with their two boys, 5 and 8 years old.

Any ideas for kid-friendly activities? I was thinking of apple picking & Kelder's farm which has mini golf and some animals... Of course we'll do some hiking and digging in the dirt for a while, but that won't last all day.

They're coming October 8th. Any fairs or festivals going on?

Thanks!

Have you considered taking them rock climbing?

yeah take them up High E and bring a mini Keg w/ you. Then you can teach the little ones how to do Keg stands on the High E ledge

Lots of kid friendly activities.
Go to the New Paltz Times web page, and check on the Almanac/Calendar. They list tons of things to do every day. There always seems to be some sort of festival going on somewhere in the area.

My kids also love to go to places like Lost City or Peter's Kill and scramble around the talus, finding caves and playing pretend games (my girls actually like to play "house" on boulders, establishing porches, living rooms, etc...).

They also love making mini-dams of rocks on the Coxing Kill - if it's too cold to swim at Split Rock, they only need to get their feet wet and play with rocks in the water (and we always ask them to remove their creations when they're done).

We love bicycling the rail trails - they go for miles, no traffic, flat... bike to the Rosendale Railroad trestle and get really high up over the river valley.

For hikes that are different than the usual, go to the Mohonk Mountain House and hike the Labyrinth trail - scrambling over and under boulders, ladders, bridges, and climbing up the crevice to the Smiley tower with incredible views. My kids often whine about hiking, but always want to do that hike. Plus it's fun to walk around the MMH grounds, the gardens, and maze made of hedges...

So much to do, so little time...

Jannette
