Monument to 'drunken pig' to go up in Ukraine

13:58 | 15/ 05/ 2008

KIEV, May 15 (RIA Novosti) - The town of Komsomolsk in central Ukraine is to erect a monument to a 'drunken pig,' the national UNIAN news agency reported on Thursday.

The monument, which portrays a pig lying on its belly with its snout in a trough, will be installed near a local cafe.

"This monument symbolizes those people who make pigs of themselves by drinking far too much," said Oleg Ryabo, the local sculptor responsible.

Last year, the sculptor created a statue symbolizing corruption that portrayed an obese traffic policeman with "give me!" written on his cap. However, local administration officials refused to give permission for the monument to be erected after a complaint from traffic police.

Komsomolsk, which has a population of 50,000, already has a number of bizarre monuments and statues, including one of a plumber. Local street-corner vendors are particularly fond of a monument to an old woman selling sunflower seeds which was erected in honor of small businesses. It is commonly believed that anyone who visits the monument before dawn will make a healthy profit that day.

Monument to 'drunken pig' will not be erected

13:58 | 15/ 05/ 2008

KIEV, May 15 (RIA Novosti) - The town of Komsomolsk will no longer erect a monument to drunken pigs. After an amazing flurry of e-mails and other internet organization, directed by the famous Hollywood pig Arnold Ziffle of Green Acres fame, 50,000 drunken pigs descended on the town to protest the monument, all but destroying the local wallow in the process.

One pig, on condition of anonymity, was quoted as snorting "Pngthhh".

Apparently, the final straw came when several French pigs were quoted as snorting "Trffflyss pngythllp", which, when translated from native pig to English, means (roughly) "F***k you humans and your f***king truffles. If this monument goes up, we stop sniffing !"

The monument, which portrays a pig lying on its belly with its snout in a trough, was to be installed near a local cafe.

"This monument symbolizes those people who make pigs of themselves by drinking far too much," said Oleg Ryabo, the local sculptor responsible.

A spokespig for the protesting element, when advised of this statement by Mr. Ryabo, replied "Upprgnnng". Unfortunately, that quote was not translatable.

Komsomolsk, which has a population of 50,000, including approximately 40 pigs, already has a number of bizarre monuments and statues, including one of a plumber and his pet pig. Local street-corner vendors are particularly fond of a monument to an old woman selling pig's feet which was erected in honor of small business pigs. It is commonly believed that anyone who visits the monument before dawn will make a pig of themselves that day.

In a possibly related event, the price of pork bellies on the Chicago market plummeted like turkeys from the WKRP traffic helicopter after word of the monument and protest hit the wire services. Apparently, Chicago traders expect all the protesting pigs will be slaughtered, creating a glut of pork bellies and lowering the market value.

Timbo, I've checked search engines for the source of your post and found nothing. I can only conclude that it's original. My hat is off to you -- you ought to post more. \:\)
